Hand-Painted Merriment Ornaments

What You Need

  1. Paper Mache Ball Ornaments (2.5" diameter balls shown)
  2. Acrylic Paints (solid and metallic colors)
  3. Paint Brushes
  4. Glass Jars (to set the ornaments on to dry)
  5. Paper plate (to use as your palette)

  1. Get your colors ready on your paper plate.
  2. Begin to paint a design on the ornament. I created a hand-dipped look by painting each end of the ornament. I started by outlining the circle first and then filling it in, keeping it fairly imperfect for a handmade feel.
  3. Set the ornament on the glass jar to dry with the unpainted side down and let dry for about 10 minutes.
  4. After the first side has finished drying, paint the opposite side of the ornament a different color.

  5. Repeat the drying process on this side by setting the ornament on the glass jar to dry for about 10 minutes.
  6. Once dry, make your touch-ups and add 2nd and 3rd coats as needed. Some of the metallic and lighter colors may need a few coats to really shimmer.
  7. Don't be afraid to get really creative! These are meant to be unique and imperfect. Paint stripes, polka dots, letters, a chevron print, or make it really messy and abstract; whatever your heart desires.
