Please Note:

From 2011-2016, we had an inspiration blog featuring nurseries, baby showers, parties, and portraits that were submitted to us by photographers, designers, and parents. We no longer accept submissions or post new blog content, but we have left the archive here for those who have saved this content, or for new readers looking for inspiration.

A Nautical Themed Baby Shower for "Captain Jack"

A Nautical Themed Baby Shower

With little baby Jack soon on the way for expecting mom Jessi, her sweet friends Christin, Erin, and Lindsay teamed up to create this fun and heartfelt baby shower. Jack's nursery is travel themed, so the girls decided to use that as inspiration, but with a twist: a nautical, "Captain Jack" themed shower. Ships, whales and captains' wheels provided the visual inspiration, and they had a lot of fun coordinating the decor and food that would be unique for Jessi and Jack. Read on for all the details of the day from Christin, then stop by the full gallery to see all of the beautiful photos captured.

From Christin Willis:

"When we found out our sweet friend Jessi was expecting a little boy, my girlfriends, Erin and Lindsay, and I decided to throw her a baby shower. We divvied up the roles, putting Lindsay in charge of the food and Erin would be our MC. Since it would be held at my house, I was in charge of decor and paper goods. I fully believe that throwing a successful shower means having the perfect team."

"Guests arrived to a table filled with the most delicious food, thought up and made by Lindsay. The Captan Jack Cheese Hash was the favorite of the morning. That is, until we enjoyed the Italian Cream Cake. Delish."

"There were decaf Arnold Palmers for the pregnant girls and mimosas made with lemon sherbet for the others."

"I went to The Printed Palette, which is just a few steps away from my house, and found the perfect piece to be the center of attention, a captain's wheel light. I also got 2 wooden signs from there that tied the colors of the shower together. The final piece of decor we needed was some "seaweed" and fortunately for us, Mr. B's Luminaries had these incredible succulent boxes that looked like seaweed in driftwood."

"After we ate it was time for the DIY project. We had all agreed that shower games weren't really "our thing" so we needed to think of something fun to do to fill the time. Making onesies for Jack was the perfect option. We prepped fabric to be iron-on and provided the guests with shape options, scissors, needle, thread, and, of course, onesies! I got a few of each size, newborn to 9 month so that Jack would have options at every age. The girls loved it and Jessi got to go home with some pretty stinkin' cute onesies."

"We didn't intend it to be this way, but next came Cry-Fest 2014. We asked each of the guests to write Jessi a note telling her why she'd be an incredible mama. We also gave Jessi a piece of paper to write Jack a note. We each shared (cried) what we had written and it was honestly the sweetest moment. We ended the afternoon with gift opening."

"For the favors, we enlisted Shem from Mr. B's Luminaries to make us baby candles and Alissa from The Printed Palette to print some of her most adorable nautical quote prints. We tied them with "rope" (aka twine) for the perfect nod to life on a ship."

"The food was wonderful. The decor was adorable. But, the thing that made it special was being able to tell Jessi that we were proud of her, that we loved her, and that we will love Jack too."
