Please Note:

From 2011-2016, we had an inspiration blog featuring nurseries, baby showers, parties, and portraits that were submitted to us by photographers, designers, and parents. We no longer accept submissions or post new blog content, but we have left the archive here for those who have saved this content, or for new readers looking for inspiration.

Micah's Colorful DIY Birthday Party

Bright, bold, and colorful defined the style for this fun third birthday party for little Micah. His mom, Kiira Turnbow of eyeheartprettythings, designed the entire event from head to toe after finding inspiration on Pinterest. The design features oodles of handmade yarn pom-pom balls in a rainbow of vibrant colors, along with several DIY projects.

For the food, Kiira kept everything miniature, including mini sliders, mini hot dogs, and seasoned tater tots presented inside emptied soup cans. For dessert, the selection included lots of candy, rice krispie pops, layered jello in mason jars, candy popcorn balls on sticks, and a 6 layer cake colored with real fruit. After being inspired by some gorgeous cake plates by Iacoli & McAllister, Kiira set out to create her own budget-friendly version. She spray painted some thrift store candlesticks with a high gloss paint for the bases, then attached white IKEA plates with gorilla glue. Voila! Beautiful cake stands for under $20 each.

Above the food table, Kiira hung a "3" sign, created by spray painting a frame from IKEA and then painting the center with chalkboard paint. The bunting flags were simply made with pieces of felt, tied together with white string, then decorated with adhesive-backed white letters from the craft store. This colorful DIY birthday party is bursting at the seams with fun details! See more from this party in the full gallery.
